LS Billet Manual Belt Tensioner Installation Instructions
This LS Billet Manual Belt Tensioner is designed to mount directly to the water pump using the factory tensioner location.
Before beginning installation:
If your engine is equipped with the factory spring-loaded belt tensioner, remove it completely before installing the manual tensioner.
Step 1 – Install the Rear Plate
Install the rear plate using the two "A" spacers.
-
Leave both mounting bolts loose at this time to allow for adjustment.

Step 2 – Install the Head Support
Install the head support using the "B" spacer. Once installed, tighten all mounting bolts to: 23 ft-lbs (31 N·m)

Step 3 – Install the Top Plate
Install the top plate using the supplied splined head pivot bolt.
-
Do not fully tighten the pivot bolt at this time.

Step 4 – Install the Rear Adjustment Bolt
Install the rear adjustment bolt with the supplied:
-
Large flat washer
-
Lock washer
Leave this bolt loose to allow the tensioner to pivot during belt installation.

Step 5 – Install the Pulley
Install the pulley using the supplied:
-
Machined stepped spacer
-
Pulley bolt
-
Washer
Torque Specification: 23 ft-lbs (31 N·m)

Step 6 – Install and Tension the Belt
-
Install the drive belt.
-
Using a 3/8-inch drive ratchet, rotate the tensioner until the belt reaches the proper tension.
-
While holding tension on the belt:
-
Tighten the rear adjustment bolt to 23 ft-lbs (31 N·m).
-
Tighten the front splined pivot bolt to 23 ft-lbs (31 N·m).

Proper Belt Tension
To verify correct belt tension, grasp the belt midway between the tensioner pulley and the crankshaft pulley.
The belt should:
-
Twist approximately 90 degrees with firm hand pressure.
-
Be difficult to twist beyond 90 degrees.
If the belt twists significantly more than 90°, increase belt tension. If it cannot be twisted close to 90°, reduce the tension slightly.
Final Inspection
Before starting the engine, verify that:
-
All hardware is tightened to 23 ft-lbs (31 N·m).
-
The belt is fully seated in every pulley groove.
-
The tensioner pivots freely before final tightening.
-
The belt tracks correctly and does not rub any surrounding components.
